How to Compare Prop Trading Firms in 2026

Checklist for comparing prop trading firmsComparisons

Buying a prop firm challenge is easy. Picking one you can actually pass — and get paid from — is the hard part. Marketing pages highlight profit splits and “fast payouts.” The details that matter sit in the rules: daily drawdown, consistency, news windows, and what happens after you fail.

This guide is the comparison workflow we built FindBestProp around. Use it before you spend on any evaluation.

Start with the trading style, not the brand

A firm that looks cheap on a $100k two-step can be a poor fit if you trade news, hold overnight, or need a futures platform. Filter first by how you trade:

  • Asset class: forex/CFD evaluations vs futures (CME-style) accounts
  • Platform: MT4/MT5, cTrader, MatchTrader, Tradovate, NinjaTrader, and others
  • Hold rules: overnight, weekend, and news trading
  • Account size: the size you can manage without changing your risk

Then compare firms that survive that filter. A “best overall” list that ignores your restrictions is just advertising.

Open the live table on the prop firm comparator and apply those filters before you look at price.

Compare the rules that kill accounts

Price is visible. The rules that stop payouts are not. For every remaining firm, read these side by side:

  1. Daily drawdown — equity or balance based? Trailing or static?
  2. Max drawdown — from initial balance, or trailing from high-water mark?
  3. Profit target — one phase or two, and is it the same on every size?
  4. Minimum trading days — and whether they still apply after an instant-fund product
  5. News restrictions — blackout minutes around high-impact events, or a full ban
  6. Consistency / best-day rules — common on instant and futures programs
  7. Prohibited strategies — copy trading, tick scalping, EAs, hedging, martingale

If two firms have a similar price but one uses a trailing drawdown on a news-heavy style, the cheaper firm is not cheaper.

Firm pages on FindBestProp summarize these fields from official sources. Always click through to the firm’s own terms before you pay — we are a comparison site, not the contract.

Price the challenge, not the account size

A $200k account with a high evaluation fee can cost more than two smaller accounts that match your risk. When you compare:

  • Note the official currency (USD vs EUR vs GBP)
  • Separate evaluation price from reset / retry fees
  • Check whether the listed price is before or after a promo
  • Confirm the checkout URL is the official firm domain

Live challenge prices on FindBestProp are meant for comparison. Promo codes change. Treat any discounted total as indicative until the official checkout shows the same number.

Check payout mechanics, not just the split

“90% profit split” means little if first payout takes months or if a consistency rule withholds the withdrawal. Look for:

  • Time to first payout after funding
  • Payout window (on-demand, weekly, bi-weekly)
  • Minimum payout amount
  • Methods (bank, Rise, crypto, and fees)
  • Whether scaling changes the split or the drawdown

If payout terms are vague on the marketing site, assume they are strict in the contract.

Use discount codes last, not first

Codes are useful. They should not choose the firm for you. A 20% discount on a rule set you cannot pass is an expensive coupon.

When you do apply a code:

  • Copy it from the discount codes page
  • Confirm the category (percent off vs BOGO vs limited sizes)
  • Apply it on the official checkout
  • Re-read news, EA, and payout rules after the price looks good

A simple decision order

  1. Filter by asset, platform, and news/overnight rules
  2. Shortlist 2–3 firms on drawdown and profit target
  3. Compare payout timing and prohibited strategies
  4. Check official price and any active promo
  5. Open the firm review page, then the official site, then buy

If you want that sequence without a spreadsheet, use Compare Firms and open each firm review from the table. That is the whole point of this site: one place to see rules, prices, and codes before you commit.
